Mechanical Design Engineer

Permanent employee, Full-time · United Kingdom

Your mission

To support our continued growth, we are looking for a talented mechanical engineer to join our dynamic team. The role would be centred around developing the next generation concepts for our product range, ensuring designs can be taken from initial concept all the way through to production. The role will appeal to individuals who are passionate about pushing the boundaries of technology and design. We’re looking for an innovative thinker who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges and transforming bold ideas into cutting-edge solutions. At Boost inc, you'll be at the forefront of developing groundbreaking products that redefine the retail experience. If you're ready to make a significant impact and work with a team that values ingenuity and excellence, we want to hear from you!

Your responsibilities
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, industrial designers, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs into final products, taking into account functionality, reliability, and manufacturability.

  • Draft detailed CAD models for parts and assemblies, and follow a design review process to ensure compliance with specifications.

  • Prepare, review and approve fully detailed engineering drawings. Ensure that they are drafted to the required standards, that they reflect design intent correctly, and that they adequately define parts for manufacture and inspection.

  • Liaise with fabricators to create detailed prototypes and coordinate testing to validate designs against performance and reliability.

  • Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions and technical reports.

  • Ensure designs are compliant with industry standards and regulations relating to safety and fitness for purpose.

  • Continually identify opportunities for improvement in existing designs and manufacturing processes to enhance the functionality, reduce costs, and streamline production.

  • Identify and document existing issues reported by our workshop, field support engineers, and clients, then establish a structured feedback process to facilitate improvements in our designs.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during both the development and production stages of the product life cycle.

  • Follow a product change process with relevant stakeholders, to ensure changes are captured, addressed and effectively introduced into production designs.

  • Take responsibility for continuous professional development, seeking feedback on performance, discussing relevant skills gaps with your line manager and seeking out opportunities to learn and develop.

  • Desire to grow into a future leadership role to lead a small group of mechanical engineers. Ideal candidates should be excited about driving collaborative efforts, and taking on increasing responsibility for project direction and team development.

Your profile
  • A strong background in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

  • 8 years+ of practical experience in mechanical design and development.

  • Proficiency in CAD software packages (Solidworks desirable)

  • Experience with rapid prototyping techniques (3D printing in particular)

  • Excellent written and spoken English

Desirable:

  • A proven track record of product development (preferably through multiple stages of the product’s life cycle)

  • Experience in design for sheet metal fabrication

  • Experience with injection moulding and/or vacuum forming

  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, assembly techniques, and production best practices.

  • Confident use of basic workshop tools and processes.

  • Experience liaising with suppliers and manufacturers

  • Experience with producing photorealistic renders

Our offer
  • Attractive remuneration

  • Private health insurance subject to successful completion of probation (6 months)

  • Free fruit, snacks and discounted in-office healthy meals (and some less healthy ones!)

  • Exceptional learning opportunities. You will be part of a fast growing scale-up with a dynamic team, with the opportunity to learn from a highly talented group of people.

  • On-site parking

  • Relaxed dress code in the office

Location: Woolwich, East London. Please note that there is an expectation that the role-holder will be comfortable being on site in line with business needs – while there is some flexibility, due to the nature of the role there are weeks when you may need to be in the office every day.
